Gavin has worked across the world to make the link between Aviation and Tourism development, and, has been associated with airlines, hotels, airports and tour operators. Previous roles have included development in British Airways, as well as consultancy projects for United Airlines, American Airlines, Qantas, as well as supporting the development of low-cost carriers to tourist destinations.
Most recently Gavin just completed a 3-year mandate as Chief Commercial Officer of SATA Azores Airlines; managing the airlines network, revenue, sales, marketing and product/brand development departments. Focus was to bring new thinking to the airline, particularly with managing the integration of the new fleet - moving to a single-aisle strategy for transatlantic opportunities.
Prior to being CCO, Gavin spent 5 years travelling the world as the Board Advisor to Turismo de Portugal (Visit Portugal); the role was to develop flight access to support tourism development and, allow for airlines to support the drive for economical growth. Gavin was instrumental in bringing over 200 new routes across 4 Portuguese airports.
He is also a Professor of Aviation and Management at International Universities. He also is a regular speaker at International conferences discussing how airlines, airports and tourist boards can work together to build sustainable routes and, to reduce the impacts of seasonality in tourism development.
Gavin has been awarded a Master of Philosophy from the University of Surrey and an Honours Degree in Management from Sheffield Hallam University.
